How to Update Icon TimeSource Lite (v7.3F to v7.4H)

This guide documents the traditional method used to update Icon TimeSource Lite from version 7.3F to version 7.4H. These instructions reflect the process commonly used when maintaining legacy PC-based time and attendance systems. Because TimeSource stores employee and transaction data locally, careful backup and restore steps are critical before applying any software update.

Important: You will need your original installation CD. If you do not have it, locate it before beginning the update process. Always create a current archive before making changes.

Step-by-Step Update Procedure

1. Create a Backup Folder

  • Create a new folder on your desktop. Name it: TC file to delete.
  • Inside TimeSource, create a current archive backup of your data.
  • Save the archive file to the newly created folder.
  • Do not delete anything at this stage.

2. Print Time Clock Rules

Print your Time Clock Rules before proceeding. In some updates, rules may need to be re-entered after the software refresh.

3. Download the Updated Version

  • Download the v7.4H update file from Icon Time Systems support (ID=23).
  • Save the downloaded file directly into the TimeSource program directory.
  • Open and run the file from that directory.

4. Overwrite Existing Data

When prompted during installation, choose to Overwrite existing data. Ignore warning messages at this stage because you have already created a current archive backup in Step 1.

5. Restart and Restore

  • Restart the TimeSource program.
  • Go to the Restore option.
  • Restore the archive you created earlier.
  • Select Append to existing data during the restore process.

Important: In Step 4 you overwrite. In Step 5 you append. The backup created in Step 1 provides the safety net.

6. Verify System Data

  • Confirm that all employee punches are present.
  • Review your Time Clock Rules and re-enter them if necessary.

7. Install the Version 8 Report Generator by following the prompt.  You Are Done!
