7000E Special Notes Regarding Punch Rounding
Note: This applies to all time keeping systems in general.

When calculating employee hours, it is a common business practice to round to the nearest quarter hour or tenth of an hour.  The 7000E supports both punch and totals rounding.  However, it is important that you understand how punch rounding works before setting the 7000E.  Rounding only affects calculations, and actual punch times are always printed on the time card.

First you must determine the proper rounding unit.  If you want to round to the tenth of an hour, then the interval is 6 minutes.  If you want to round punches to the quarter hour, then the interval is 15 minutes.

The point within the selected interval where punch time will round forward or backward is called the “breakpoint”.  When selecting your Rounding Unit you must keep in mind the following:

The breakpoint for IN punches is counted from the BEGINNING of the interval,

and punches round FORWARD to the end of the interval ON or AFTER the

breakpoint.

The breakpoint for OUT punches is counted from the END of the interval, and
punches round BACKWARD to the beginning of the interval ON or BEFORE the breakpoint.

The following Rounding Units are available within the 7000E:

            1:            None (exact minute)

2:            6 minutes with a 3 minute breakpoint (tenth of an hour)
3:            15 minutes with a 3 minute breakpoint (quarter hour)
4:            15 minutes with a 7 minute breakpoint (quarter hour)

The following is an example of 15 minute rounding with a 7 minute breakpoint:
By the way, we recommend this particular setting, which is “2, 4” in the rounding rules.
