ProxiPen III Guard Tour RFID Data Collection System
ProxiPen III Guard Tour RFID Data Collection System
The ProxiPen III is the latest compact RFID data collection unit designed for guard patrol and verification reporting. Built for demanding field environments, it creates a documented record of services performed at predetermined locations and times. While ProxiPen II remains supported, ProxiPen III is the updated 2025 model with enhanced durability and data handling capability.
Manufactured by Detex, a long-established provider of guard tour and security verification systems, the ProxiPen III is engineered to deliver reliable, unfalsifiable documentation of patrol routes, inspections, and service checkpoints.
How ProxiPen III Works
The unit automatically reads RFID tags (transponders) without requiring buttons or manual input. When the reading head is placed within range of an approved tag, the system captures the unique code stored in the tag and records the time and date of the event.
- Contactless RFID reading (125 kHz frequency)
- Reading range: approximately 0.12” to 0.71” (3–18mm), depending on tag
- Visual and audible confirmation of successful read
- Control points, incidents, personnel, or equipment can be assigned to tags
Firmware is upgradeable through authorized distributors, allowing the device to remain current as operational needs evolve.
Built for Harsh Conditions
ProxiPen III is engineered for industrial and commercial use. The electronics are fully potted inside a shock-resistant polycarbonate housing, providing protection against moisture, impacts, and harsh environments.
- IP67 internal protection rating
- Shock resistance: withstands 5-foot drop onto concrete
- Operating temperature range: -4°F to +158°F (-20°C to +70°C)
- Resistant to heat, shocks, and hydrocarbons
Its compact design (7.48” L x 1.26” W x 0.98” H) and lightweight construction (4.93 oz) make it easy to carry during extended patrol shifts.
Power and Memory Capacity
The low-power electronic circuit operates on a single standard AA battery (alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable). The battery can be replaced without special tools.
- Memory capacity: 4,063 readings
- Time resolution: 1 minute
- Full memory download time: approximately 1 minute
- Data transfer rate: 2400–57600 Baud via RFID
This high-capacity memory allows extended field use without frequent data downloads.
Software and Reporting
Included plug-and-play communication and evaluation software simplifies setup and reporting. Basic Windows knowledge is sufficient to configure the unit, create master files, and evaluate collected data.
- Simple configuration interface
- Comprehensive report generation
- Clear documentation of who did what, where, and when
Accessories include a nylon holster with belt clip (standard) and an optional leather holster.
Typical Applications
- Security guard patrol verification
- Facility inspection routes
- Maintenance documentation
- Industrial compliance checks
- Asset and equipment monitoring
