Lathem 7000E Ribbon Replacement Instructions
When used under normal temperature and humidity conditions, the ribbon in the Lathem 7000E time clock is rated for approximately 60,000 impressions or up to one year of normal use. To maintain print quality and proper operation, the ribbon must be replaced with Lathem replacement ribbon part number VIS6008.
Follow the steps below carefully to replace the ribbon.
Ribbon Replacement Procedure
- Insert the key into the top cover lock and turn it one quarter turn to unlock the cover.
- Hold the left and right sides of the top cover and lift it upward.
- Grasp the ribbon by its handle.
- Pull the ribbon straight up and out of the Lathem 7000E.
- Place the new ribbon inside the 7000E, positioning it within the clasps that hold the ribbon in place.
- Ensure the ribbon is properly threaded between the print head and the ribbon mask.
If the ribbon is not threaded correctly, the time clock may fail to print and may display one or more error messages.
After the ribbon is installed, turn the ribbon knob slightly to confirm that the ribbon is seated correctly.
Important: The ribbon does not tighten to the touch. Excessive turning of the ribbon knob will shorten the usable life of the ribbon and should be avoided.
Once the ribbon is properly installed, lower the top cover and lock it to resume normal operation.
If a time card is inserted for testing and the 7000E is not actively used by all employees, it may be necessary to perform an All Cards Reset to clear the card from memory before returning the clock to service.
